Charo Santos-Concio lobbies for Oriental Mindoro as eco-tourism site

Apart from presiding over the 43rd International Emmy Awards gala, ABS-CBN President and CEO Charo Santos-Concio also met with her fellow Mindorenos during her stay in New York City.

Charo, who serves as chairwoman of the Oriental Mindoro Development Council for ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Kalikasan, announced their project of transforming the province into an eco-tourism site, “Balitang America” reported.

With this plan, the foundation hopes that more jobs will be generated while preserving the environment.

“We’re so fortunate we have achieved certain success in our lives,” she said in the interview. “And I think it’s very important for us to give back to the community where we came from.”

Charo was a small-town girl who grew up in Oriental Mindoro, then rose to become one of the most powerful women in Philippine media. And she credits her success from all of her 28 years in ABS-CBN to hard work.

“May kasabihan nga, walang kapalit ang hard work, walang kapalit ang pagpupursigi, ang pagtatiyaga,” she related. “These are the values that were taught to us by our parents and I’d like to think I lived by those values.”

Even Bruce Paisner, president of the International Emmy Awards, expressed his admiration for her.

“I’ve gotten to know Charo over the years and certainly in the last couple of days, and we’re just very, very excited that this company and this country are a major part of our gala,” he said in a separate interview.
