MANILA – Ysabel Ortega, who plays Angela on “On the Wings of Love,” denied that she used her parents to bag her role in the hit primetime series.
Ortega is the daughter of Senator Lito Lapid and singer Michelle Ortega.
Speaking to MJ Felipe and Ogie Diaz during their DZMM program on Saturday, the young actress said she auditioned for the role of Angela.
“Honestly po, nung nag-start ako, from scratch talaga. Nagpunta pa po ako sa workshop ni Tito Ogie,” she said. “I don’t think naman po na [yung pagiging showbiz royalty] is a curse pero I’m grateful to have my parents. For me, it’s a blessing.”
According to Ortega, she is grateful to have been given the opportunity to be part of a successful show.
“Unang una po sa lahat, sobra po akong grateful kasi nabigyan po ako ng opportunity na ito na maging part of ‘On the Wings of Love.’ Sobrang saya po nung experience. Bata pa lang po ako, sobra ko na pong gusto mag-artista,” she said, adding that at 16, she knows that she still has a long way to go.
Meanwhile, the actress shared that she also encounters challenges in portraying Angela on “OTWOL.”
“Kasi I’m supposed to be 24. Ang laki ng na-skip. 'Yung unang scene ko po, dapat lasing-lasingan pero hindi naman po ako umiinom. I had no idea po on how to look lasing,” she said.
Aside from that, Ortega said she also gets bashed for being the third wheel to the love team of James Reid and Nadine Lustre on the show.
“Meron din pong nagba-bash. Siyempre hindi naman po 'yun maiiwasan especially na love triangle po 'yung role ko. Siyempre po kapag love triangle, dapat ready sa bashers and you have to be ready for the hate. When I found out na nakuha ko po 'yung role, ang focus ko lang talaga is yung pag-portray ko ng character. Sobrang grateful lang po talaga,” she said.
Since she is just starting out, Ortega said she is willing to learn the ropes of showbiz so she could become a better actress in the future.
