Anne, Jugs, Jhong recount ‘It’s Showtime’ humble beginnings

To cap the month-long celebration of “It’s Showtime” for its sixth anniversary, the noontime show’s mainstays Anne Curtis, Jugs Jugueta, and Jhong Hilario shared the humble beginnings of their show via Instagram today, October 24.

Anne recalled the journey of “It’s Showtime” on how it became ABS-CBN’s official noontime show from being a morning program.

“Happy Birthday Showtime! Celebrating 6 years with this crazy lot! We started off as a morning show at 10:30am with a random mix of 6 of us as hosts and through the years the family just kept growing and growing till we became the noontime show of ABS-CBN! Proud to be part of this family that has been through so much!” said Anne (@annecurtissmith).

Meanwhile, Jugs who is also one of the original mainstays recalled how “It’s Showtime” changed his life as well the noontime viewers through his personal IG account (@jugsjugsjugs).

“Six years ago, i was lucky enough to be part of this ragtag show called Showtime.
“At that time, i was having a quarterlife crisis in my personal life. I wasn't getting younger, the band was doing okay but not great. I couldn't afford to buy a new car, much less my own house.

“I wanted to take an MBA at the Ateneo Graduate School, and then after that maybe get a good paying day job.

“Then a call from ABS-CBN changed everything.

“Since day one, the Showtime Family let me feel at home. No one ever told me to lose weight. In fact, they told me to be myself! I thought, ‘that's easy!’”

“When we guest bands and other artists, they sing live, not lipsynced (except of course on lip-swak!). Our showtime dancers are not eye candy, but really very talented dancers. We don't exploit the old nor the less fortunate. We reward people based on talent and/or presence. Good vibes lang! The list goes on and on...

“Showtime was supposed to be just 13 taped episodes, every Saturday night. I keep telling myself, after 13 episodes, it's all gravy already.

“Now, six years later, i'm so happy i took that leap of faith.”

“Happy birthday, Showtime!!!”

Sample King Jhong, on the other hand, recalled how he became an official host of the show from being a favorite hurado.

“My 1st week as hurado.dito nag simula ang Sample King dahil kay kuys @vhongx44 at madlang people and @djmodkutfive .dito nagsimula ang sample! sample! dito din nagsimula ang salitang cutie pie dahil kay @praybeytbenjamin na inalagaan ako sa pagpapatawa.at PS: Salamat din sa suporta ng aking Pamilya!

#ShowtimeAnimversary,” he expressed via IG (@jhonghilario).”

Of course Anne, Jugs, and Jhong did not forget to thank the show’s director Bobet Vidanes for his patience and hard work.
Read their message for Direk Bobet below:

“Sending all my love to our daddy @direkbobetvidanes and the whole staff, crew and most specially our MADLANG PEOPLE!  Happy ANIMversary!!! May the best team win later sa MAGPASIKAT guys! Woooo! Team #MAGPASIKATAnneKimEruption pa rin!” said Anne.

“Thank you so much, @direkbobetvidanes for creating this very unique, quirky, weird, but awesome show. On paper, we're like the Replacements (It's a movie.

Keanu Reeves is on it. Google it!) But somehow, it works! It must be magic!!! Thank you for the six magical years, madlang people! We pray that we can continue giving you happiness and good vibes for more years to come!” said Jugs.

Thank you God Almighty!” expressed Jhong.
