Fil-Am brothers are 'PINASikat' champs

MANILA -- Despite not being the only contestant to use yo-yos as part of their performance, the Betito brothers proved that they were better than the rest after they were named as the champions in the grand finals of 'PINASikat' held at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City Saturday.

Marco and Marc Betito, known as "Spyros", said they first learned how to play with diabolos, or Chinese yo-yos, after they visited Disney World.

They then did some online research about the Chinese yo-yo, and learned more tricks by watching videos on the Internet.

Their love for the toy eventually landed them a spot in the grand finals of "PINASikat".

"Our act is not just about the trick. It involves dancing, coordination, timing. We are happy to be in the PINASikat grand finals. Our goal is to entertain the people and to make everyone happy about watching our performance," the brothers said.

For their grand finals performance, Spyros used glow-in-the-dark Chinese yo-yos to fit into their video game theme.

The brothers then passed the yo-yos to each other as if these were balls of energy, similar to what is usually seen in video games.

After their performance, Meg Imperial, who was one of the judges, praised the brothers for their unique performance.

"Alam niyo, akala ko kanina nung nakita ko 'yung VTR ninyo, akala ko katulad lang nung sa yo-yo, kinabahan ako na baka hindi niyo masurprise pero nagkamali ako kasi may story yung performance ninyo, at magandang bagay 'yun. And, hindi lang isang pasabog, kundi lagi kayong may pasabog kaya nakakatuwa siyang panoorin. Pinabilib niyo kami, napatayo ang mga hurado," she said.

Spyros got a perfect score for their performance, earning them the grand prize of P1 million and a house and lot.

"Thank you, madlang people, thank you. Salamat sa support niyo, we're so happy to be here," the brothers said.

The other groups received the following average scores—A.D Beat, 9.40; Amokk, 8.90; Trumpo Maskter, 9.80; Rhufa's Army, 9.25; Marlou M, 9.40; Wushu Discovery, 8.55; D' Spinner, 8.90; D' Kings, 7.85; Pole Empress, 8.95; Urban Crew, 9.10; Phoenix, 9.55; The Wedding Singer, 8.7; Asian Pride, 8.10; J-Crisis, 9.95; and Flairmonster, 8.55.
