#BETYOUDIDNTKNOW: First choice, second choice

They say that nothing is final in a film until it premieres. Original plans, sometimes, change even when the cameras are already rolling. This holds true in casting as well.

Here are some of the major casting changes in Star Cinema films.

Judy Ann Santos and Kris Aquino (“Feng Shui”)

Kris Aquino's journey to being hailed Box Office Horror Queen began with "Feng Shui" 10 years ago, a film that was originally offered to Queen of Teleserye Judy Ann Santos.

"In-offer kay Judy Ann at tinanggihan ni Tito Alfie [Lorenzo, Juday's manager] kasi ibang leading man ang gusto nila. Then in-offer ni Direk Chito [Roño] sa akin,” Kris revealed in her interview with Jayson Gainza on “Ihaw Na” last year.

AJ Perez and Sam Concepcion; Albie Casiño and Enrique Gil (“Way Back Home”)

In Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes’ major film debut “Way Back Home,” they were supposed to be paired with Albie Casiño and AJ Perez, respectively.

Sam Concepcion took over AJ’s role following his unforeseen death in 2011.

“Si AJ kasi, he is very hard working. Kaya niyang gawin kahit ano that he sets his mind to. And I wanted to do the same for this movie,” Sam said about his good friend AJ in a previous press conference.

Meanwhile, Enrique Gil replaced Albie due to management’s decision to experiment on the leading men for the young actresses. It was the first time he was paired with Kathryn.

Derek Ramsay and John Lloyd Cruz (“The Mistress”)

The role of JD, a charming yet cocky architect, was originally intended for Derek Ramsay.

When it was handed to John Lloyd Cruz, the Box Office King had apprehensions on pulling off the character, who he described as “a man of the world.”

"Nung una pa lang, 'Talaga ganito siya? Meron bang lalaking ganito?'" he said in a press conference. "Malayo si JD sa 'kin, matapang si JD, he's too aggressive… It took me a while para huminga 'yung character on its own. Grabe 'yung struggle…"

Judy Ann Santos and Iza Calzado (“Maria Leonora Teresa”)

Director Wenn Deramas once revealed to PEP that the original trio he had in mind for “Maria Leonora Teresa” was composed of Dawn Zulueta, Eugene Domingo, and Jodi Sta. Maria. Kris Aquino was also originally considered for the role but she was already committed to “Feng Shui.”

Then, Judy Ann Santos was announced as lead character, only to be replaced later on by Iza Calzado.

Di rin puwede si Juday so pinalitan siya ni Iza. Schedule ang unang sinabi sa akin, di match ang schedule namin ni Judy Ann,” Direk Wenn said.

The final lineup for “MLT” then became Iza, Jodi, and Zanjoe Marudo.
