Another Filipina is making waves on an international singing competition.
Mary Ann Van Der Horst, a 28-year-old caregiver based in Victoria, Australia earned four “Yes” from the judges of “X-Factor” Australia.
Mary Ann impressed the judges Ronan Keating, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Dannii Minogue and Redfoo by singing Beyonce’s “Halo.”
Through her powerful voice, the four judges along with the audience gave her a standing ovation.
Before singing her audition piece, Mary Ann introduced herself by making jokes about her younger husband who she says is annoyed with her voice.
"When you came out, I thought you weren't serious," says Ronan. "I was so wrong.”
He further adds, "Everything about you, Mary Ann. The way that you moved onstage, the way that you were singing that song like it was your own, it was incredible to watch. That was amazing."
Apart from Mary Ann, two Filipinos also earned a spot on the next round of “X-Factor Australia" such as Marlisa Punzalan, 14 and Justin Vasquez, 15.
