MANILA — Former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Divine Maitland-Smith is showing off more than just her tattoos for her debut appearance on men's magazine FHM Philippines.
The 23-year-old, who was part of the reality show's "Unlimited" edition back in 2012, appears topless inside the pages of the magazine's June 2014 issue.
In an interview with FHM posted on its official website, the Filipino-British singer admitted that she couldn't pass up the opportunity to step out of her comfort zone.
"I wanted to do something different, something that would make me push myself because I don’t even go to the pool without my boardshorts on," she was quoted in saying.
She also revealed her reason for joining the reality television show. According to Maitland-Smith, she wanted to become an inspiration for the country's lesbian community.
"I wanted to show the Philippines a different side to lesbians. You don't have to be a dyke! You can have boobs and show them! Be proud of who you are! I was so sick of people looking at me like they could fit me into a stereotype or a certain genre. I wanted to make a point that you could be who you are and that’s okay," she said.
The Cebu native was the last housemate to be evicted from the "PBB" house during the show's fourth season. She was romantically linked with eventual winner Slater Young, despite having a non-showbiz girlfriend at the time.
"Lesbians are hot! Any type of love is hot. It doesn't matter if its gay, straight, whatever. A person finds something in another person and they help them get over the bad stuff. How can that be a bad thing?" she said.
Maitland-Smith is currently embroiled in a controversy involving marijuana, after the authorities of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) allegedly found the illegal substance inside her luggage.
According to reports, Maitland-Smith left her baggage inside a taxi cab, which prompted the driver to return her belongings to the lost and found section of NAIA last May 29. Supposedly, marijuana was found upon further inspection.
Maitland-Smith has already denied the allegations, noting that she doesn't know what happened after she left her bag inside the vehicle.
