#BetYouDidntKnow: Sharon Cuneta, the Mega-‘Madrasta’

“Madrasta,” topbilled by megastar Sharon Cuneta, was a landmark project for Star Cinema. How?

    •    "Madrasta” was Sharon Cuneta’s first film outside Viva Films, her home studio for around 20 years.
    •     Since “Madrasta” was the first film of Sharon Cuneta under Star Cinema, the film outfit made sure to make it extra special by:
o   Appointing Direk Olivia M. Lamasan to helm the film.
o   Releasing an original song to be the movie’s theme song "Hanggang Kailan Kita Mamahalin," now the theme of the series "The Legal Wife."
o   Star Cinema commissioned the respected Willy Cruz to compose the said theme song. Cruz is behind some of the biggest hits of Sharon like “Bituing Walang Ningning.”
o   The said theme became a big hit. It even had its own singing contest on TV.
o   Making the megastar record her own version of the song in the movie.
    •    “Madrasta” faced big Hollywood film “The Rock” by Sean Connery – a big risk. Star Cinema Head Malou Santos, however, had strong faith in Sharon and the project that she decided not to pull the movie out before its playdate.

    •     Luckily, “Madrasta” became one of the biggest hits of Star Cinema in its 20 years in the business of film production.
    •     For “Madrasta,” Sharon Cuneta became a Grandslam Best Actress winning trophies from Star Awards for Movies, Gawad Urian, Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), and FAMAS Awards.
    •     Sharon’s next movies with Star Cinema are also considered modern classics – Olive Lamasan’s “Minsan, Minahal Kita,” Joey Reyes’ “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,” and Chito Rono’s “Caregiver.” She also starred in the comedy movie “BFF” with Ai-Ai Delas Alas as co-star and Wenn Deramas as director.
