Yeng Constantino: ‘I am a musician. I am not boxed in a certain genre’

As Yeng Constantino dabbles into a different musical genre with her latest album “All About Love,” some people speculated that she has given up her Rock Princess title, which was first trademark when she entered the music industry.

Yeng shares how she took a different genre during the grand launching of her latest album, yesterday, November 27 along Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

She shares a certain comment from a basher questioning her eligibility for the rock princess title because apparently, her new album relatively speaks about the beauty of love sung in a mellowed manner.

Nung nakita ko si Alanis Morissette sabi ko ‘I wanna be like her’ ‘yung rebelde, hindi nagsusuklay at naliligo. ‘Yun ‘yung na-achieve ko. At along the way, bilang artist, na-achive ko ‘yon and I’m really, really grateful.”

She adds however, that as an artist, she has also learned to evolve her music and style hence the changes.

Maaari pong piliin na wag magbago. Pero ako bilang artist, ako po ay free-spirited at kung saan ako dinadala ng alon ng puso ko, dun po ako sumusunod,” she explains. “Pero ang masasabi ko ngayon, I am more happy to be called a musician rather than being boxed in a certain genre. I am a musician. I am a performer that’s more important than a title. I’m a musician I can do whatever I want.

Kasi first and foremost, music, ‘yun po talaga ‘yung love ko. Hindi po ‘yung certain genre lang. I love music, music is beautiful.”

Asked how she feels by the different feedback that she receives from her supporters, Yeng replies,“I accept both reactions. Hindi siya nakakaapekto sa akin, na parang kinakabahan ako. Ang importante sa akin ay I keep my honesty and my sincerity as a musician at ‘yung ang ihinahatid ko sa mga taga-pakinig. And hopefully they will support me, at kung ano ang nangyayari sa life ko.”

“All About Love” consists of ten tracks (“Dance Without the Music,” “Ikaw,” “Shining Like the Sun (Baby are You Ready),” “Your Love Is My Relief,” “ 'What's Up Ahead,” “Dito Ka Lang Sa Tabi,” Feels Like,” “So Beautiful,” “Ferris Wheel,” and “Una’t Huling Pag-ibig”) is now available in record stores nationwide.
