On Monday night, January 27, two new teleseryes made their debut on the primetime block of rival TV stations.
Although they are not on the same timeslot, a lot of viewers are looking forward to these shows since they mark the return of Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera in the drama genre.
Angel has not appeared in a soap opera for three years since she starred in the fantaserye Imortal. She was, however, part of the sitcom Toda Maxthat aired on the Kapamilya Network from 2011 to 2013.
Marian, on the other hand, was not seen on Kapuso primetime for nine months since she starred in the remake of Temptation of Wife.
Angel co-stars with Jericho Rosales, Maja Salvador, and JC de Vera in The Legal Wife while Carmela is topbilled by Marian and Alden Richards.
The Legal Wife revolves around Monica (played by Angel) and Adrian (played by Jericho), a married couple whose lives are about to turn around because of a huge mistake.
According to ABS-CBN, the characters in The Legal Wife "will be put to test by challenges that push them to sacrifice their personal happiness for the sake of their families."
GMA-7 sums up Carmela as follows: "It is about a woman who falls in love with a man who despises her mother, she is forced to make heart-wrenching decisions."
In the January 27 episode of The Legal Wife, the story focused on the tragic love story of the parents of Monica played by Matt Evans and Neri Naig.
Xyriel Manabat is cast as the younger version of Angel's character.
As for Carmela, Marian's image is seen in the first frame of the show. "Lahat tayo may pinapasang krus," says Marian in her voice over as she looked back on the struggles of her mother (played by Agot Isidro).
The first scene then showed Agot Isidro carrying a cross as a way of fulfilling her Holy Week "panata" or vow. Her character is doing "penitensiya" in the belief that it will counter the "malas" or bad fortune caused by the moles found in her shoulder.
