Here’s one more reason to love Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s love team.
Last June 16, the pair posted on their social media accounts about taking a stand against cyberbullying through the Cybersmile Foundation. They are the only Filipino artists part of the organization, joining a handful of international stars such as One Direction, Little Mix, Nick Jonas, and Carly Rae Jepsen.
During their digital conference for “La LunaSangre” last Saturday, June 17, the pair explained why they chose to fight cyberbullying.
“Tinanong kami nung… KathNiel Solidarity… kung ano ‘yung gusto naming i-support na advocacy and ang sinabi namin... is cyberbullying. Grabe na din kasi ‘yung comments ng tao, naaapektuhan tayo individually, so feeling namin siguro dapat may gumawa ng way to lessen or stop it… Akala natin maliit siya pero hindi natin alam ‘yung epekto nun sa tao. Kailangan maagapan.” Kathryn related.
Daniel added that everyone should always be mindful of what they say about other people online, because no one is ever sure what will happen after reading hurtful words.
“Maraming mga cases na nagsu-suicide ‘yung mga bata… dahil sa… bullying sa internet, pinagtitripan sila… siyempre it’s really depressing na may ganoon na nababasa,” he said.
The actor added that he believes no one has the right to hurt other people, online or offline.
“It’s a sign of weakness na manggaganun ka ng tao,” he said.
He also maintained that being bullied online doesn’t give anyone a free pass to do the same.
“Hindi naman porket ni-bash kami, namura kami, kailangan naming balikan ng mura din. Hindi mo kailangang bumaba sa level na ‘yun. ‘Wag mo na patulan, hindi mo sila level… ‘Wag mong pansinin ‘yung papansin,” he said.
In the end, both Kathryn and Daniel hoped that a lot of people, celebrities and fans alike, would follow what they started.
“Kami ni Kathryn for peace. Good vibes lang, bawal ang bad vibes dito. Gusto namin masaya lang kami, at tayo, lagi… Kesa magsakitan tayo… ito siguro ‘yung tamang oras na magkaisa tayo, i-set aside na natin ‘yung pride and everything,” Daniel said.
“La Luna Sangre” also stars John Lloyd Cruz, Angel Locsin, and Richard Gutierrez. It premieres on Primetime Bida tonigjht, June 19.
