Thought Picks: You don't feel successful yet? That's okay

By Joseph Marco as told to Rowena Joy Sanchez

(We dug deep into the mind of "Dear Other Self" star Joseph Marco, who made some confessions about his view of success and how having an inspiration would lead you - though sometimes unexpectedly - to your ultimate calling.)

Totoo talaga ‘yung sinasabi nila na the more you give, the more you receive.

At the age of 17, hindi na 'ko naga-ask ng money from my family. I started doing commercials nung 17 ako, natuto akong mag-ipon, i-manage 'yung money ko. Actually ako ‘yung may pinakamalaking binibigay sa parents ko. But I don’t really mind it kasi naniniwala ako dun sa saying na with great power comes great responsibility. When I became independent, nakita ko ‘yung difference from being a student, from being dependent, to becoming independent.

Then, nag-start ako mag-artista. Growing up, mahiyain ako. Kakaririn ko ba ‘to? Itutuloy ko ba ‘to?

But ‘yung naging motivation ko was my family. Kasi every time nakakakuha ako ng blessings, I share it with them. Iba ‘yung feeling eh. When you share things with your loved ones, masaya eh. Kaysa pansarili mo lang - it’s pointless, walang meaning.

At the end of the day you just have to believe na tama 'yung ginagawa mo. So never give up kasi failure is part of life. Kaya dapat kahit ga’no kabigat o karami 'yung problemang dumating sa’yo, just move forward.

To be honest, hindi ko talaga iniisip na successful ako kasi I always wanna challenge myself. At the end of the day, it’s like my daily battle na I have to do good, I have to be at my best, I shouldn’t stop from improving myself. Until now kahit na marami nang naging projects, hindi naman sa dina-down ko 'yung sarili ko, pero parang 'yun 'yung way ko para i-challenge ko 'yung sarili ko. "Hindi ka pa magaling kahit na nakakuha ka na ng ganitong award, kahit marami kang projects, hindi ka pa magaling kaya you have to improve yourself."

Naniniwala ako na success happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Don't stop improving yourself.
