Rivermaya has been active for more than 23 years now, and they’re not planning to stop any time soon.
Set to release their 12th album later this year, band members Mark Escueta, Nathan Azarcon, Mike Elgar, and Ryan Peralta shared their “secret” to staying together all these years, and it was surprisingly simple: friendship.
“Importante ‘yung nage-enjoy kayo even offstage, kasi ‘yung tugtugan given na kasi musicians naman kami ever since bata eh. Pero ‘yung in between nung tugtog, recording, 'pag masaya din ‘yun, ‘yun ‘yung crucial,” Mark said during their contract signing with Star Music earlier today, May 19.
He added that they managed to stick together every time they encountered problems by “catching” each other.
“Every time may pagdadaanan kami, may maganda ding mangyayari. 'Pag may member na aalis, may papasok, and lahat nakatutok sa paggawa ng music, lahat nagkakasundo musically, tapos in between din, ‘yung passion and dedication. Bottom line is nage-enjoy pa rin kami sa ginagawa namin.”
Their 12th album will be composed of eight original songs, and will showcase both new and old sides of Rivermaya.
“Puro bagong kwento na hindi pa namin nagawan ng kanta before, pero mainly umiikot pa rin sa buhay ng mga Pilipino,” Mark said.
