#ReelxReal Exclusive: Ethan Salvador, always going forward
In this #ReelxReal feature, "2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten" star Ethan Salvador on taking life by the nuts.
The energy does not shift when Ethan Salvador walks into a room.
He's an unassuming boy, not yet consumed by fame and therefore, does not carry with him a certain leeriness towards interviews. Ethan, 19, smiles at our staff, shakes a couple of hands, says hi to every single person in the room, all of whom are trying not to freak out about the fact that he's extremely attractive. He's not shy, and he isn't "on" either. When he plops down on the designated couch, he pulls out his phone from his back pocket and fiddles with it. Meanwhile, the rest of us get on with some finishing touches for the interview and his first-ever Star Cinema Chat.
When the cameras began rolling, that's when we see it: The Change.
It happens so quickly that some people miss it entirely. One minute, there's a Las Vagas-bred boy with kind eyes in front of you and with a blink of an eye, there he is. Ethan Salvadaor. Rising star.
3, 2, 1, go!
Ethan hails from Vegas, and was raised by a single mother whose impact in his life was apparent in the five times he mentions her in this interview. His father is Regal baby Emil Sandoval, and he was never in the picture. In a previous interview, he went as far as calling him "lazy". However, it was his father that introduced Ethan to the idea of being an actor back when he was 16.
He said, "My father was an artista back then in the 80s and 90s. I'd never met my father...he messaged me on Facebook 'cause he found me and he just blatantly asked me if I'd like to join the showbiz in the Philippines."
According to Ethan, it took him three years to decide to move to the Philippines, and by then he was head over heels with acting.
See, Ethan doesn't like to sit idle. A self-professed "adrenaline junkie", he takes life by the nuts and hopes for the best. He likes to jump from great heights (literally and figuratively), has a penchant for driving fast cars, and always trains his eyes to the next great challenge.
"Live by choice and not by chance. Everything in life is completely up to you," he tells us.
"I'm very deep when it comes to life," he continues, "I wanna be remembered as someone who was able to inspire a lot of people, and I want to be that guy that people thank for changing their mindset cause the way people think sometimes is different from what most people would want to think about life."
TAKE THE PLUNGE
Ethan encourages this generation to spare no room for fear and to experience everything with an open mind.
Ethan found himself in the Philippines even before he entered his 20s. He faced failure over and over again. It took him three tries to get a coveted spot in the Star Magic roster of talents and now, he stars in the Cinema One Originals-produced, critically acclaimed film "2 Cool 2 Be Forgotten."
With his life, Ethan encourages young people not to get comfortable in their boxes. Fear doesn't get you anywhere, except where you don't want to be.
"Those are the things that make life beautiful! You need [experiences] in life, whether it's positive or negative!" Ethan goes.
"That's what brings balance, and when you take challenges like that even negative experiences...just keep in mind, without losing there's no such thing as winning. You need those fun experiences, those dangerous experiences in order to prevail."
He graciously takes photos with our staff before he leaves for his next appointment, and as we watched him leave the room, hitching a backpack on his shoulders, we think to ourselves: We have front row seats as this guy begins his career and defines his own fame.
Don't forget to watch Ethan's first film, "2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten", a story set in the late 90s in Angeles, Pampanga, almost a decade after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.
Felix Salonga (Khalil Ramos), a friendless achiever, is bent on topping his class to elevate his status from a resettlement area.
Magnus, played by Ethan, and Maxim Snyder (Jameson Blake), half-American brothers, want nothing but to escape life from the Philippines with their prostitute mother and live with their American GI father in the US.
The Snyder brothers each have their own way of reaching this dream. One struggles to finish high school with the promise of America after graduation while the mischievous one has a dark, sinister plan. As Felix develops a relationship with the brothers, he unearths desires within him he never confronted before. He slowly learns that behind the manicured lawns of “Little America,” each of his actions can lead to fatal consequences.
Directed by Petersen Vargas, the Cinema One Originals film "2 Cool 2 Be Forgotten" is showing in cinemas under the distribution of Star Cinema.
